AI marketing basics

AI for small business: start with one marketing job.

You do not need a plan to automate your entire business before trying AI. Start with a marketing job that keeps getting pushed to Friday, then to next Friday: posting a finished project, answering common questions on your website, or getting a customer newsletter ready.

AI can also help with administration and other work. This guide focuses on marketing because that is BoastAble’s service. The question is whether a particular job can become easier for your team without weakening the care you put into it.

Pick work that already has a place in the week

Look for a repeated job with a clear result. “Do our marketing” is too broad. “Prepare three social posts from this week’s approved project photos” gives you something to review.

For an HVAC company, the first job might be a draft about a seasonal service, using the current offer and the questions customers ask. A vacation-rental manager might start with a newsletter using approved property details and local events. A plumber might want a service page that answers the questions the office hears before a booking.

Choose one you can judge. If nobody has time to review the work, handing it to AI will not settle that problem.

Check that you have the ingredients

Before buying another tool, gather the information a new employee would need for this job:

  • The current service details, prices and offer dates that apply.
  • A few examples of writing that sounds like your business.
  • Photos and customer comments you have permission to use.
  • The intended audience and the next step you want them to take.
  • A named reviewer and a place to put the draft.

Leave out information the job does not need. A social caption usually does not require a customer’s home address, invoice or private email history. Agree on what the tool may access before connecting it to customer records.

Try a draft before connecting everything

Take a small set of approved material and ask the AI to prepare one output. Check the details, the tone and the amount of editing it needs. Give it a clear correction: “The offer ends on October 31. Replace the old date,” rather than “Make this better.”

You may find that a simple drafting tool is enough. If your team keeps repeating the same instructions and moving the same files, a configured AI helper may be worth exploring. Our guide to agentic marketing explains that difference with a project-photo example.

Write a few rules before it becomes a routine

Decide what the helper can prepare, what it can send or publish, and what needs approval. Keep control over customer promises and spending. Give it a way to report missing information instead of guessing.

A first setup could prepare a newsletter and leave it for approval. Later, you might connect approved content to your email platform. Adding that connection is a separate decision: your team should know which audience receives the message and who checks it before sending.

Count the checking time, too

For the first few runs, note the time spent gathering information, reviewing the result and correcting mistakes. Compare that with how your team handled the job before. Also ask whether the work was accurate and useful enough to send.

A faster first draft is helpful only if the rest of the job improves. If corrections keep recurring, fix the source information or narrow the instruction. Add another job once the first is working and someone knows how to pause or change it.

Get help with a manageable first step

General AI resources, such as AWS’s small-business solutions overview, cover a broad range of possible uses. Your first marketing setup needs a specific job, its source material and a review process your team can manage.

BoastAble learns your business, agrees on useful marketing work and implements it with BoastOS. You keep the software and configured setup, with training and one year of support. See the engagement and running costs or tell us which marketing job needs a hand.
