BoastOS sample workspace with AI work waiting for a person to review.
AI marketing basics

What is agentic marketing? Give AI a job, with clear limits.

A chat tool can write a social caption when you ask. An AI agent can be given a recurring job: find approved project photos, prepare captions using your service information, and put the drafts where your team can check them. That is the practical idea behind agentic marketing.

The agent has a purpose, source material and permission to use certain tools. It can carry out several steps toward the purpose rather than waiting for a new instruction at every step. How much it can do depends on the setup. Publishing, contacting customers or spending money should have rules you understand.

A job your team can recognize

Suppose a remodeling business wants to share one completed project each week. The office already has a folder of approved photos and a short completion note from the project manager.

The AI helper checks for a new, approved project. It reads the note, picks suitable photos and drafts a post explaining the work. It then puts that draft on the office manager’s review list. After approval, a connected scheduling tool can publish it.

There are several decisions to make before that runs:

  • Which folder contains photos the customer has agreed you can share?
  • Who confirms the project details and approves the caption?
  • Which accounts can the helper use, and can it publish or only prepare drafts?
  • What happens when the note is missing or two photos seem to show different jobs?

A useful rule for this example is simple: missing information goes back to a person. The helper does not invent a price, customer comment or claim about the finished work.

How this differs from an ordinary automation

A scheduled reminder follows a fixed rule: three days after a job closes, send a review request. You may not need an AI agent for that.

AI becomes more relevant when the work involves interpreting information. A helper might read incoming feedback and prepare different responses for a compliment, a billing question and a complaint. Your team still needs to check that classification, especially before a message leaves the business.

You can combine fixed steps with AI. A schedule starts the job, AI prepares the material, and an approval step stops it from going out too soon. Choosing an agent should depend on what the work needs, not on making every task sound advanced.

What should stay with a person?

Your team owns the promises you make to customers. Keep approval over sensitive replies, claims about your services, offers and changes to advertising budgets. Decide who receives an alert when the helper cannot finish, and make it easy to pause the job.

Review the source information as well as the wording. A smooth caption can still use an old offer or the wrong project photo. Give the reviewer enough information to check what the draft is based on.

Vlerick Business School’s explanation of agentic marketing describes agents taking on marketing tasks with greater independence while people remain accountable. For a local business, the first useful version can be much smaller than a system running every campaign.

Start with one complete job

Write down the input, the result you want and the person who approves it. Run a small trial and keep track of the time spent preparing, checking and fixing the work. If the helper creates more checking than it removes, narrow the job or improve the source material before expanding it.
